Cost

Economic growth invariably brings with it a higher cost of living, and recent years have seen housing costs in the expatriate sector being driven up by high demand. The cost of living in Vietnam varies significantly, depending on where you live. The cities tend to have a higher cost of living compared with rural areas.

Vietnamese Currency

The costs below are a rough estimate if you chose to live in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi.
A one room studio, probably in a guesthouse or someplace similar, can be had for around 400 US Dollars per month and would include airconditioning, a hot shower, cable TV and WiFi Internet.

These estimates are given in Vietnamese dong:

  • Bowl of Pho soup: 10,000

  • Budget meal: 20,000 - 30,000

  • Mid-priced meal: 70,000 - 150,000

  • Taxi from HCMC Airport to District 1 - 70,000

  • Taxi from Hanoi Airport to the Old Quarter - 250,000

Household/General Expenses

  • 1 kilo of laundry - 4000

  • Doctor visit - 800,000

  • Haircut - 50,000
